Le Château de la Rivière vineyard covers 60 hectares of vines planted on a clay-limestone soil. The estate is home to eight hectares of limestone quarries, ideal for barrel aging and bottle storage. It was necessary in 2012 to disregard the particularly difficult spring to appreciate the very favorable conditions from in the middle of July. This contrast Between spring and summer has already shown its efficiency in past (vintage 2000 and 2009) by offering tannins of exceptional quality.
The vinification takes place in tanks of concrete, stainless steel and wood. The alcoholic fermentation and maceration take place for four weeks with temperature control. Malolactic fermentation is practiced in new barrels. The aging continues for 15 months in barrels: 40% of the wine is aged in new barrels with aging on lees for six months, while 60% of the wine is aged in barrels for one to two years.
Dark red, the dress is intense. The nose is fruity and woody. The palate is dense with a round attack, fruity and velvety. The mid-palate is very well balanced and the finish is long and pleasant.
Ideal with steak, duck or cheese.
