Press review

95 Points: Decanter Magazine by Steven Spurrier Decanter ‘’Man of the Year’’ // 94 Points - eRobertParker.com #221 Oct 2015 "The 2011 Xinomavro Reserve Vielles Vignes is one of Alpha's prestige labels. At the price point, considering the quality, it is also one of Greece's most intriguing bargains. Sourced from ungrafted 90-year-old bush vines, it was aged for 24 months in new French oak from various coopers. It comes in at 14% alcohol. For all of the well-controlled power underlying this beauty, it is remarkably refined and suave, the time in oak (coupled with the late release) taming it to some degree. It seemed fresh and complete when poured from the bottle after three hours open. Then, given another hour in the glass, it still seemed special and persistent. It is very civilized, perhaps to a fault. This modern versus traditional debate is one we see in many places. This leans very much to the modern. That said, it will easily be one of the most appealing Xinomavros ever for international drinkers; its style is simply familiar to what many great French, classic regions produce. Burgundy drinkers will rejoice. Xinomavro purists may have an occasional, nagging quibble. Philosophy aside, one thing we can conclude is this: we can debate just how many will adore it, but most everyone will find this easy to like and even easier to drink. As it sits in the mouth, the finish becomes more gripping and lingers. Surprisingly approachable nonetheless, it will still be able to improve over the next few years, hopefully acquiring more complexity as it goes along. It does have to prove it can acquire that complexity in the cellar and hold well enough to do so. However, at the price point, you can't very well go wrong. It is the perfect food wine. The bottle will empty fast at the table."
