Château Vaugelas

Château Vaugelas extends its 150 hectares of vineyard in the town of Camplong d’Aude, between le Mont Alaric and la Montagne Noire.

Belonging to Bonfils family since 2000, the property has a cellar of more than 400 barrels, renewed each year by a third, coated concrete tanks but also two original frustoconical wooden tanks of 80 hl allowing a remarkable work of punching down.
As early as the 16th century, the Benedictines planted vines on this magnificent soil of shale gravel scree brought by the Orbieu, which flows at the limits of the domain. At the time, Château Vaugelas supplied wine to Lagrasse Abbey.

THE VINE AND ITS TERROIR
The vineyard has the originality of being established only on a single plot. The clay-limestone soils of the property are composed of deep blue marls and rolled pebbles or gravels on the surface.

It combines old vines of regional varietals and more recent plantations carried out in cordon de Royat and in Gobelet, traditional pruning of Corbières, allowing a better adaptation of the vegetation to the sunshine and the soil.
